A modified method for the synthesis of (1Z)-1-bromo-3,3,3-trichloro-1-nitropropene has been proposed. The reactions of this compound with indole and N-methylindole lead to the formation of substitution–addition products. The structures of all products were confirmed by IR and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and the structures of (1E)-3,3,3-trichloro-1-nitropropene and (1Z)-1-bromo-3,3,3-trichloro-1-nitropropene were additionally verified by 1H–15N HMBC NMR spectroscopy.
