Key result
Abstract fails to report results evaluating aspirin for preeclampsia prevention.
Why the study?
Numerous studies have investigated prophylactic aspirin for preventing preeclampsia, but results have been contradictory regarding timing and dose.
Meta-Analysis
Supports initiating ≥100 mg aspirin by 16 weeks to cut preterm preeclampsia risk; confirms timing- and dose-specific efficacy in high-quality trials.
(Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2018;218(3):287–293) Preeclampsia is a major contributor of maternal and fetal morbidity and death, especially in the case of preterm births. Numerous studies have investigated the effect of prophylactic aspirin in the prevention of preeclampsia; however, the results have been contradictory. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aspirin in preventing preeclampsia at term and preterm in relation to gestational age at onset of treatment as well as the therapeutic dose.
