The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of alexithymic characteristics of married couples on their marital adjustment. For this purpose, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale were administered to 101 Turkish married couples (n = 202). A regression analysis showed that the total alexithymia predicted marital adjustment meaningfully. In addition, wives' alexithymic characteristics predicted their own and their husbands' marital adjustment and that husbands' alexithymic characteristics predicted their own and their wives' marital adjustment.
