Epicardial ablation targets ventricular tachycardia in a patient with Becker muscular dystrophy.
Why the study?
Cardiac involvement with abnormal LV systolic function and myocardial damage is frequent in Becker muscular dystrophy, but management of ventricular tachycardia in this context is not well described.
Case Report (n=1)
Epicardial ablation may be utilized for the management of ventricular tachycardia in patients with Becker muscular dystrophy.
Supports epicardial VT ablation in Becker muscular dystrophy; hypothesis-generating and requires validation before practice change.
Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) are X-linked genetic disorders involving abnormal dystrophin synthesis.1 Cardiac involvement is frequent in these disorders. Echocardiograms show abnormal systolic function of the left ventricle (LV) in 50%–70% of BMD patients, whereas evidence of myocardial damage detected by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging can be found even in patients with normal echocardiograms.2–4 Some mutations in the dystrophin gene cause isolated cardiomyopathy without skeletal myopathy.

Krothapalli et al. (2016) conducted a case report in Becker muscular dystrophy and ventricular tachycardia (n=1). Epicardial ablation was evaluated. Epicardial ablation of ventricular tachycardia was described in a patient with Becker muscular dystrophy.
