Stable icosahedral quasicrystals have been found in binary Cd-Ca and Cd-Yb systems in an as-solidified state as well as an annealed state. The icosahedral quasicrystals are identified to form at the composition of Cd₈₅Ca₁₅ and Cd₈₄Yb₁₆. An electron diffraction study confirmed that the icosahedral quasicrystals have a primitive lattice. Quasilattice parameters are 0.5731 nm for Cd₈₅Ca₁₅ and 0.5681 nm for Cd₈₄Yb₁₆.
