The authors describe a characteristic form of hepatic injury noted in 3 patients recently explored by the Fogarty biliary balloon catheter technique. The complication consists of pseudoaneurysmal hepatic cavitation demonstrated by intra- or postoperative cholangiography. In the cases reported here the injury has had minimal clinical effect, but further experience with a larger number of similar complications is required before accurate assessment of potential significance can be made.
