This case report documents the first instance of total absence of the left pericardium requiring thoracic surgery, successfully treated with a pig pericardium allograft.
Gehlmann et al. (1989) conducted a case report in Complete absence of the left pericardium (n=1). Thoracic surgery with closure of the defect using an allograft of pig pericardium was evaluated. Thoracic surgery using an allograft of pig pericardium successfully closed a symptomatic congenital complete absence of the left pericardium in a 44-year-old male.
