Aggregation of platelets of organoclay into “packets” (tactoids) is shown to result in intensification of large-scale disorder, which reduces the anisotropy of nanofiller. In turn, this factor significantly decreases the degree of nanocomposite reinforcement. The role of interfacial adhesion in the level of anisotropy is also shown.
