A monoclonal antibody to anthracene was generated by immunization, cell hybridization, screening and ascites fluid protocols. This antibody recognizes free anthracene at a concentration of 5–10μg/1 and cross reacts with certain other PAHs, which cross-reactivity is mainly dependent on size. This monoclonal antibody was used to develop an enzyme immunoassay for quantifying PAHs in the environment.
