A growth mechanism derived from physical principles produces for the first time a physical quasicrystal modelling the Icosahedral phase. The model provides the location of impurity (small) atoms, explains x-ray and electron diffraction data, reproduces dark and bright field images and gives sensible values for the solute concentration, mean coordination number and packing density.
