The LeClaire-Brinkman theory of thermotransport in solids predicts that the heat of transport should be equal to the enthalpy of migration for interstitials but minus this quantity for vacancies. It is pointed out that this prediction must yield the wrong sign for either the vacancies or the interstitials in the Frenkel-Kontorova model.
