Key result
Hypertension linked to ~81% higher odds of coronary artery involvement on angiography.
Why the study?
Coronary artery disease prevalence is increasing in Iran, especially among young adults, necessitating evaluation of risk factors and angiographic findings by age group.
Population
112 patients admitted for CAD evaluation at Boo-Ali hospital from 2013 to 2014
Comparison
Patients aged ≤ 50 years vs > 50 years
Design
Cross-sectional descriptive study

Traditional CAD risk factors show no age-group differences in referred patients; leaves open whether lifestyle shifts drive rising young-adult incidence in Iran.
Cross-Sectional (n=5,442)

Odds Ratio: 1.813 (95% CI 1.379–2.383)

Traditional cardiovascular risk factors and opiate addiction are significant independent predictors of angiographically proven coronary artery disease in the Iranian population.
Moshar et al. (2016) conducted a cross-sectional in Coronary Artery Disease (n=5,442). Hypertension vs. Normal blood pressure was evaluated on Positive coronary angiogram (>5% stenosis) (OR 1.813, 95% CI 1.379-2.383, p=0.0001). Hypertension (OR 1.81), abnormal fasting blood sugar (OR 1.28), male gender (OR 2.26), high waist-to-hip ratio (OR 1.40), and opiate addiction (OR 1.30) significantly increased the odds of coronary artery involvement.
