Are platelet indices altered in children with ADHD compared to healthy controls?
Platelet indices such as MPV, PDW, and PCT are significantly elevated in children with ADHD, suggesting a potential link between platelet activation and the disorder.
Objective: The relationship between platelet activation and psychiatric disorders has been previously investigated by several studies. The aim of the present study was to investigate any probable difference in the platelet indices of patients with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder ADHD. Methods: The records of a total of 47 children with ADHD (aged 6-16 years), diagnosed using the DSM-V, have been scanned. The study consisted of 47 patients, who were admitted to our hospital, and 50 healthy controls (aged 6-16 years). Platelet indices, including platelet count, MPV, PDW, and PCT levels were retrospectively recorded. Results: The MPV, PDW and PCT values in the ADHD group were found to be increased significantly compared to those of the healthy control group. (p [PBS 2020; 10(2.000): 86-89]

Akbayram et al. (2020) conducted a case-control in Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (n=97). Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder vs. Healthy controls was evaluated on Platelet indices (MPV, PDW, and PCT levels). Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children was associated with significantly increased MPV, PDW, and PCT values compared to healthy controls.
