The past decade has seen a significant expansion in our understanding of sickle cell anemia—with much clinical promise. The objective in this disease is, of course, prevention of polymerization and sickling, and the more we learn about custom-making molecules to intervene in specific molecular interactions, the closer we come to being able to achieve that goal.
