Why the study?
Does low-dose colchicine improve pericardial effusion in a patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy?
Does low-dose colchicine improve pericardial effusion in a patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy?
Low-dose colchicine may be an effective treatment for pericardial effusion complicating Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
May support colchicine for pericardial effusion in Takotsubo cardiomyopathy; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective confirmation.
We present a 54-year-old woman who had a 3-day history of acute chest pain due to an emotional trigger. Electrocardiogram, blood test, and cardiac imaging consisted of a diagnosis of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy with pericardial effusion. Her cardiac function recovered after treatment, and the pericardial effusion was corrected by low-dose colchicine.
