The potential of glow curve numerical analysis for practical dosimetry is revised. The fundamentals of these numerical methods are summarised and a description of different kinds of analysis procedures together with their range of applicability is given. The most sophisticated glow curve analysis, resolving individual glow peaks has proved to be essential for the study of the dosimetric properties of TL materials. For practical dosimetry, much simpler analysis programmes not resolving individual peaks are considered more convenient. These programmes enable the automatic estimation of both the background and the region of the glow curve with dosimetric information.
