Thin‐walled tubes of β‐alumina (0.03–0.1 cm thick) have been produced by electrophoresis using a suspension of 1μ β‐alumina powder in dichloromethane. Trichloroacetic acid was added to facilitate particle charging. The particles were negatively charged and were deposited on graphite rod mandrels. Density of the material after sintering ranged from 2.9 to 3.1 g/cm 3 , and conductivities in good agreement with pressed powders were measured. Sodium‐sulfur cells were constructed and operated using electrophoretic tubes as the electrolyte.
