Medical management may relieve LVOTO and stop GI bleeding in HOCM with acquired vWD; hypothesis-generating, needs prospective confirmation.
Case Report (n=1)
This case provides the first evidence that acquired type 2A von Willebrand syndrome can be caused by hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and successfully managed with medical therapy.
Shimizu et al. (2007) conducted a case report in Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, acquired von Willebrand syndrome, occult gastrointestinal bleeding (n=1). Verapamil and anemia correction was evaluated on Relief of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and cessation of gastrointestinal bleeding. Treatment with verapamil and anemia correction relieved left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, restored large von Willebrand factor multimers, and stopped occult gastrointestinal bleeding.
