Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man 1879) were reared at different stocking densities and under different nutritional regimes in order to determine a valid index of condition.Based on observations of these larvae, a condition index was developed, using the Apgar three-point numerical scale to assess the health of human babies.This index allows a quanti®able assessment of larvae at any stage in their development and should be of value for both commercial and research purposes.
