Aging dam infrastructure represents a growing global risk as sediment accumulation accelerates, reservoir capacity declines, and climate‑driven inflow extremes increase structural stress. Tens of thousands of dams worldwide now exceed their intended design lifespan, with many lacking modern sediment management systems. This paper outlines the scale of the sedimentation problem and proposes a practical, continuous, mechanical conveyor‑based sediment bypass system suitable for rapid retrofitting of existing dams and integration into new dam designs. The system restores downstream sediment flow, reduces upstream pressure, increases reservoir capacity, and lowers the probability of catastrophic failure. By re‑establishing the river’s natural sediment conveyor belt, this approach offers an early‑stage safety solution that enhances dam longevity, ecological resilience, and flood protection.
