Conference poster presented at the 12th SCAR Open Science Conference, Oslo, Norway, 2026. This poster presents a regional assessment and recalibration of daily Level-3 satellite chlorophyll-a products in the Bransfield Strait, Antarctica. MODIS-Aqua, VIIRS-SNPP, and OLCI/Sentinel-3A/B chlorophyll-a products were evaluated against 196 in situ observations collected during 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2024. Satellite observations were matched with field measurements using temporal windows of ±1, ±2, and ±3 days. The study assessed satellite product performance before and after regional recalibration using statistical accuracy metrics and leave-one-year-out cross-validation. All three satellite products showed a general tendency to underestimate near-surface chlorophyll-a concentrations before recalibration. The ±2-day temporal window provided a practical balance between data availability and temporal consistency. Regional recalibration reduced log-transformed bias and RMSE in several cases, although improvements were not consistent across all accuracy metrics. The resulting regional equations should be applied only within the observed chlorophyll-a ranges used for their development.
