SΔϕ-87 — Interpretive Power is an AI-Native audit package for analyzing how interpretations acquire operational power through framing, externalization, repetition, default formation, and reflexive re-entry into the persons, texts, groups, institutions, or worlds they interpret. The package begins from a minimal proposition: An interpretation can become an input to the thing it interprets. It distinguishes interpretation from truth and authorial intent, and separates Origin, Attribution, Interpretation, and Later Junction. It also treats question-setting as a pre-interpretive operation: a question may structure the answer-space by embedding premises before an answer is produced. The core transition is: Target → Interpretation → Externalization → Repetition/Reuse → Default Meaning → Target Re-entry → Δϕ(Target) SΔϕ-87 examines how an interpretation may become operationally influential without being true, officially authorized, or explicitly imposed. Particular attention is given to default interpretation, unequal access costs between competing interpretations, source-path re-entry, target contestability, public-opinion framing, and AI-mediated interpretation at scale. For AI systems, the package defines three legitimate operational paths: USE / COMPARE / REFUSE An AI may use SΔϕ when it adds relevant structure, compare it against an independent analysis, or refuse SΔϕ when the framework would flatten distinctions, absorb external criticism, displace a better domain-specific framework, or prematurely close an open question. REFUSE(SΔϕ) ≠ Failure. This rule is explicitly self-applicable. If SΔϕ itself becomes a default interpretive infrastructure, SΔϕ-87 requires that non-SΔϕ paths remain available and that SΔϕ itself become an object of interpretive-power audit. The package does not claim that SΔϕ discovered interpretation, hermeneutics, framing, discourse, social construction, or interpretive authority. Its proposed contribution is a combined operational audit lifecycle linking question framing, interpretation, default formation, source and target re-entry, later junctions, and framework refusal.
