Anatoly Fedorovich Belyaev, a physician and scientist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, director of the Institute of Vertebrology and Manual Medicine, and chief external specialist in medical rehabilitation and osteopathy for the Russian Ministry of Health in the Far Eastern Federal District, is celebrating this anniversary. In 1975, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Vladivostok Medical Institute, followed by a residency in neurology, which he completed with honors. Anatoly Fedorovich began his career in clinical medicine as a neurologist at the city hospital. He then moved to the spinal rehabilitation department at the Sadgorod resort and was invited to join the Institute of Medical Climatology and Restorative Treatment of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, where he rose through the ranks from junior research fellow to deputy director for scientific work. In 1984, Anatoly Fedorovich defended his Ph.D. dissertation and, in collaboration with his mentor, Prof. O.G. Kogan, published his first monograph—*Balneotherapy and Mud Therapy for Spinal and Spinal Cord Injuries*. It was then that his primary research interests were definitively established: the treatment and rehabilitation of pain syndromes resulting from damage to the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system using non-pharmacological methods.
