It has been 50 years since Punk exploded into our lives. In spite of its apparent short life, it still resonates through our lives, especially that of youth cultures and music across the globe. This paper draws on two important books that relate to the UK experience to express this commentary, drawing upon personal experience. These two books give a first-hand observation structured around the appearance and evolution of the Sex Pistols, perhaps the best-known British punk rock band, the narrative is structured around the role of the Malcolm McClaren who saw himself as a cultural impresario and Vivienne Westwood who became a renowned fashion designer. Engaging with fashion, sex and music they sought to shock the British Establishment, its media outlets and the public. Ironically, punk rock started in New York and was exported across the pond to the UK and beyond. 2026 is a year of anniversaries, including that of the hot summer and IMF crisis of 1976. Like punk, these two events echo through our lives today.
