Carica papaya L. (Caricaceae) was found to contain the cyclopentene‐ring containing cyanogenic glucoside tetraphyllin B as well as the aromatic cyanogenic glucoside prunasin. This is the first report of the isolation of cyanogenic glucosides from a species known to produce glucosinolates. The presence of both classes of compounds suggests that Carica papaya may be intermediate between the Capparales and the Violales.
