In contrast to classic concepts of the relationship of sea-level change to shore erosion, Per Bruun has proposed a new theory giving dimensional relationships to the process. To make a preliminary test of the validity of the theory, a small-scale model study was conducted, using constant beach and wave characteristics under variable conditions of water-level rise. Equilibrium was rapidly established with erosion and deposition taking place as predicted by Bruun.
