An automated technology developed for short-term forecasting of water levels in the Don River mouth and delta is based on the joint use of the hydrothermodynamic model of the Sea of Azov and the hydrodynamic model of the Don River mouth area. The paper presents the results of improving the technology for water level forecasting that were obtained during the experimental operation period of the Don Model calculation-simulation package. The issues of coordination of a set of river-sea models in operational forecasting are examined: selection of the position of the boundary line between the models, determination of the position of an undisturbed sea surface in relation to absolute elevations, as well as effects of various factors on the quality of forecast calculations.
