Water hammer phenomena are well known. Usually analytical methods are used to understand water hammer transient processes with limited success when cavitation occurs. The authors describe a method which uses a capacitance tomography technique to monitor the processes. Cross-sectional images can be captured at a speed of 100 frame/s from a 12-electrode sensor. Experimental results show the effectiveness of this method.
