Perfluoropolyethers of different molecular weights have been tested as water repellents for pietra serena (a sandstone). Rate of water-absorption by the stone was chosen as the parameter indicative of the efficiency of the treatment, About 60% reduction in water-absorption was obtained by applying 30g/m2 of a perfluoropolyether having a molecular weight of 6000–7000 in 50% solution in trichlorotrifluoroethane.
