Case report outlines epidural labor analgesia in type IIA von Willebrand disease with severe preeclampsia.
Why the study?
von Willebrand's disease presents special risks to parturients and requires careful peripartum management, with limited reports on epidural labor analgesia in type IIA vWD complicated by severe preeclampsia.

Case extends sparse reports to type IIA vWD with preeclampsia; leaves open optimal peripartum analgesia protocols.
VON WILLEBRAND'S disease (vWD) presents special risks to the parturient and demands additional attention be paid to her peripartum course. We are aware of two previous case reports of epidural labor analgesia in patients with vWD, 1,2 both in patients with type I (80% of all cases), which normalizes during pregnancy. We report a case of type ILA vWD complicated by severe preeclampsia and its management during the puerperium.

Jones et al. (1999) conducted a case report in von Willebrand's Disease Type IIA and Severe Preeclampsia (n=1). Epidural labor analgesia was evaluated. Epidural labor analgesia and its management during the puerperium were described in a parturient with type IIA von Willebrand's disease complicated by severe preeclampsia.
