The application of cold-working causes a remarkable reduction in the magnetisation of the intermetallic Ni 3 Al compound. The cold-working effect is explained in terms of the dislocation theory with consideration of the ferromagnetic and paramagnetic interactions of Ni atoms. The magnetisation at 0K decreases in proportion to the dislocation density in the early stage of plastic deformation and to the square root of it in the advanced stage.
