Two American geographers analyze German interstate migration patterns during the period following unification of former West and East Germany (1990-2003). A specific focus of the analysis is the extent to which migration patterns established immediately following unification have changed over the ensuing years. The paper presents a variety of complementary analyses to establish the temporal and geographic patterns of German domestic migration and discusses possible reasons for the seemingly surprising stability of migration patterns throughout the period.
