This report presents the results of excavations conducted at 13DK96, a Late Woodland occupation near Spirit Lake in northwest Iowa. Fieldwork was carried out during the summers of 2014, 2015, and 2016 by students enrolled at Lakeside Lab on West Lake Okoboji under the direction of John Doershuk, State Archaeologist of Iowa. Rich, well-preserved collections of bone, ceramic, and lithic materials are discussed with an emphasis on the faunal remains. Primary and secondary data derived from analysis of identified skeletal elements provide an understanding of the ecological systems exploited, seasonality of occupation, methods of capture, dietary variation, and inferred socio-cultural activities. Ceramic and lithic artifacts add additional information regarding the temporal and cultural context of 13DK96.
