This technical report examines the use of DataCite's OAI-PMH service as an alternative metadata harvesting route for Research Data Centers (RDCs) that register dataset metadata with DataCite. It describes how DataCite Repository accounts can be combined with a dataset-specific query in an OAI-PMH setSpec to construct dataset-filtered harvesting feeds. The report provides a reproducible example using a DataCite Repository account, including: the construction of the query, URL encoding, Base64URL encoding, setSpec, metadata prefix, and complete the OAI-PMH ListRecords request. It also distinguishes DataCite-backed harvesting from native repository OAI-PMH interfaces. On one hand, the native OAI-PMH enables direct, potentially more comprehensive, harvesting from the source repository; on the other hand, DataCite's OAI-PMH service provides an alternative for harvesting metadata already registered in the DataCite infrastructure. The approach was developed in the context of KonsortSWD/NFDI4Society, Measure 2 – Findability of Service and Data, to support the assessment and improvement of metadata interoperability and discoverability of Research Data Centers.
