Rhodophaea madaricola Slagsvold, Berggren & Voith, sp. nov . from Greece, Crete, is described based on morphology of the male and female genitalia, external characters and DNA barcodes. It is compared with and distinguished from the closely related and widespread species R. formosa (Haworth, 1811). The relationship of Rhodophaea to Sciota Hulst, 1888, Nephopterix Hübner, [1825] and other Phycitini taxa is briefly explored, including a larger analysis of publicly available DNA barcodes. A new combination for the Eastern Palaearctic Nephopterix shantungella Roesler, 1969 is established: Sciota shantungella (Roesler, 1969), comb. nov .
