Van Til et al. identified opportunities for the integration of open-science curricula in clinical-psychology doctoral programs and provided evidence that such content remains limited in many programs. We applaud those efforts and extend them by discussing system-level barriers to implementing open-science training and the need to radically rethink clinical-science training, with the ultimate goal of addressing essential competencies that are currently not covered in many programs, including but not limited to open science. Reducing the prevalence of questionable research practices and strengthening the rigor and transparency of clinical science is necessary and may require reenvisioning contemporary clinical-science training and incentives in the field.
