The Facility Management (FM) sector faces significant challenges stemming from information fragmentation and the difficulty in accessing accurate, up-to-date building data. Although the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) with Semantic Web Technologies (SWTs) offers potential solutions to these barriers, their combined application within the FM context remains underexplored in existing literature. To address these challenges, the study in this paper conducts a systematic literature review of 41 journal articles published between 2019 and 2025, analyzing why, where, and how SWTs are adopted with BIM for FM. The results reveal that the primary application of SWTs is linking across domains, with Information Management emerging as the most targeted FM theme. The findings indicate a mature capability in static data linking, but a deficiency in the bidirectional frameworks necessary for autonomous FM. Suggestions and technological integration for future development are also proposed to benefit the research community and industry practitioners.
