The high pressure beamline ID27 at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility has been upgraded to include a von Hámos X-ray emission spectrometer, expanding the beamline's capabilities for investigating structural and electronic properties under extreme conditions. To test the setup, a natural magnesiosiderite (Mg0.42Fe0.56Mn0.02CO3) was studied in a diamond anvil cell up to 50 GPa. The experiments were carried out using incident beam energies of 23.5 and 15.6 keV. At 23.5 keV diffraction patterns with a maximum wave-vector transfer |Q|=5.5 Å−1 and Fe Kβ emission spectra were collected. At the lower incident energy of 15.6 keV, the emission intensity increased by nearly a factor of 2.7, although the accessible momentum transfer was reduced to |Q| to 3.5 Å−1. The results highlight the capabilities of ID27 for combined structural and electronic structure studies of materials under high pressure conditions, paving the way for novel insights into the behavior of complex systems.
