This paper analyzes the color expression of the main space in Kameki Tsuchiura’s modern houses. His approach to color expression involved unifying the finishes and paint colors of the walls and ceilings while contrasting them with the colors of the woodwork. Around 1934 to 1936, Tsuchiura intentionally employed an achromatic scheme as contrast. Tsuchiura Kameki House embodies these typical characteristics of the era; at the same time, it is positioned as a work featuring both normative and unique color expression, such as the switching of paint colors in response to its irregular spatial composition.
