The present review focuses on the application of lanthanide oxides (LOs: La2O3, CeO2, Pr6O11, Nd2O3, Sm2O3, Eu2O3, Gd2O3, Tb4O7, Dy2O3, Ho2O3, Er2O3, Yb2O3, and Lu2O3) as solid-state catalysts for important environmental reactions. The general trends governing both the catalytic efficiency and the stability of LO-based catalysts were identified, providing crucial information for their application in heterogeneous catalysis. Given that most existing studies on LO-based catalysts focus on CeO2, this review concentrates on other rare-earth oxides.
