Stimuli-responsive luminescent polymers hold great promise for smart materials, which, however, suffer from complicated synthetic procedures involving synthesis of stimuli-responsive moiety, luminescent moiety and the polymer mainchain separately. Herein, we report a one-pot Barbier polymerization-induced emission strategy to fabricate a stimuli-responsive clusteroluminescent organophosphorus-containing polymer with intriguing aggregation-induced emission and photochromic characteristics, involving synchronous C–C and C–P bonds formation. An efficient polymeric ligand for a nickel-catalyzed Kumada reaction and stimuli-responsive pigment applications are demonstrated as well. This work therefore provides a versatile strategy for the design of a stimuli-responsive clusteroluminescent polymer.
