To tackle the symbol synchronization issue caused by inter-symbol interference in faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmission, we designed a symbol synchronization algorithm based on the relative bit error rate (BER). By comparing the relative error rate difference between the previous and subsequent zero-crossing points and the peak points, the sampling timing was dynamically adjusted to achieve symbol synchronization. Simulations under different conditions show that the proposed algorithm is feasible for FTN transmission systems.
