Hikayat Perang Aceh is a classic literary work that not only records the struggle of the Acehnese people but also embeds spiritual values and cultural identity relevant to society prior to the outbreak of war. The central issue addressed in this creative project is how these values can be interpreted and transformed into a communicative visual form through illustration. This study focuses on Chapter I, titled "Before the Clang of Weapons" (Sebelum Dentang Senjata), a section within the artbook Kalam yang Bersaksi, with an emphasis on visual concept and illustration aspects. A qualitative method utilizing a design thinking approach was employed. Data were gathered through textual reading and analysis of Hikayat Perang Aceh, literature review, interviews, visual exploration, and artwork validation. The creative process demonstrates that the section "Before the Clang of Weapons" is constructed through a visual concept positioning the pre-war phase as a space to portray social conditions, community readiness, leadership, and spiritual devotion. These values are transformed through semi-realistic digital illustrations. The findings indicate that reconstructing text into illustrations builds a dialogic relationship between textual quotes and visuals, while effectively reinterpreting spiritual values and cultural identity into a more reflective form.
