The article examines the specific features of the participation of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in the formation of the national economic outcome. The aim of the work is to substantiate a comprehensive approach to comparing territories, taking into account the scale of the economy, production dynamics, investment activity, and sectoral structure. The methodological basis consists of comparative and structural analysis, calculation of specific shares and growth rates, ranking of regions, as well as the use of indicators of gross regional product, GRP per capita, the index of physical volume of GRP, and investment in fixed capital. Based on official statistics, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, the Moscow Region, and the Republic of Tatarstan are examined. It has been established that the differences between regions are determined not only by the absolute volume of production, but also by specialization, investment dynamics, and the concentration of business activity. The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of applying them in the development of regional economic policy and in assessing the prospects for territorial development. The conclusion drawn is that a comprehensive system of indicators is needed, along with a further transition to an integrated assessment of regional contribution.
