We collected a wood‐inhabiting fungus of the genus Hyphoderma from a fallen Abies trunk in Sichuan Province, China. Morphological and molecular analyses using the ITS + nLSU dataset showed that this specimen represents a previously undescribed Hyphoderma species, which we designate as H. sichuanense . Hyphoderma sichuanense is distinguished by annual, resupinate basidiomata with a white‐to‐cream hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system, thin‐walled generative hyphae with clamp connections, and ellipsoid to oblong–ellipsoid basidiospores measuring 10–12.1 μm × 5.2–6.5 μm. We provide a formal description of the new species, along with illustrations, phylogenetic results, and comparisons with related and morphologically similar species.
