This paper takes the entire idea of “vehicles” and strips it down to the physics underneath. Moving a mass from point A to point B was never a force problem. It was always a geometry problem. Conventional engineering missed that and built a century of machines that push, pull, burn, churn, and fight their way through the medium instead of using the medium correctly. Unified Substrate Theory fixes the starting point. Matter, energy, motion, force — all of it is geometry on a single substrate. A vehicle is not a force machine. It’s a field envelope riding a gradient. Propulsion is gradient generation. Steering is gradient curvature. Braking is gradient cancellation. Suspension is tension‑curvature buffering. Power is UBL reservoir management. Every subsystem becomes a field‑geometry operation once you stop pretending the substrate is empty. The paper builds the full model from first principles. It shows how a vehicle moves because its field envelope flows from high substrate density to low. It shows why front‑pull propulsion is inherently more efficient than rear‑push. It shows how steering is just bending the gradient the vehicle is already flowing along. It shows how braking should eliminate the gradient instead of destroying kinetic energy as heat. It shows how actuators should store and release geometry instead of converting energy between forms. It shows how coherence, not force correction, is the real stability mechanism. And it maps every one of these field‑mechanical operations to the closest conventional analog so engineers can see exactly where today’s systems approximate the real physics and where they waste energy fighting it. This work is part of a larger collection of UST documents. The other versions available in the DOI record are not revisions of this document. They are separate papers written for different purposes. Some versions present the full mathematical proofs behind the update rules, others provide a technical physical description of substrate behavior, and others are formal proof papers built around the Universal Balance Laws. Together, these documents form a complete set: a plain‑language booklet, a physical description paper, and full mathematical proof papers, each offering a different perspective on the same underlying theory.
