Low-power wireless communication is critical for long-term wearable healthcare monitoring. This review presents a structured technical comparison of radio frequency identification (RFID), near field communication (NFC), backscatter communication (BackCom), and ultra-wideband (UWB) in terms of principles, energy mechanisms, architectures, and performance. We further examine their applications in body-fluid and vital-parameter monitoring, identify challenges in power, range, integration and security, and provide guidance for selecting communication technologies for next-generation wearable medical systems.
