Creative activity reduces stress index and boosts parasympathetic tone selectively in introverted individuals.
Why the study?
The influence of creative activity on heart rhythm variability parameters in individuals with different levels of extraversion was not well understood.
Does creative task performance affect heart rhythm variability differently based on extraversion levels?
Does creative task performance affect heart rhythm variability differently based on extraversion levels?
Creative task performance appears to increase parasympathetic tone in introverts but not in extraverts.
Should not yet change clinical stress management; hypothesis-generating for personality-specific autonomic responses in creative contexts.
Parameters of heart rhythm variability of the examinees with different level of extraversion during creative task performance were investigated. Reduction of die stress index value at examinees-introverts is revealed, which testifying about intensification of parasimpathic influence of vegetative nervous system is revealed. Unlike them at examinees-extraverts parasimpathic effect is not observed.

Aghababian et al. (2006) studied this question. Creative activity reduced the stress index and increased parasympathetic influence in introverted subjects, but this effect was absent in extraverts.
