Key result
Percutaneous intramyocardial septal ablation achieves ~88% procedural success in drug-resistant HOCM.
Why the study?
Current invasive treatments for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have limitations including procedural complexity, variable results, and serious complications, motivating evaluation of a new transthoracic echocardiography-guided percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation approach.
Transthoracic echocardiography-guided PIMSRA is a safe and effective new treatment approach for patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Liu et al. (2019) studied Obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (n=68). Percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation (PIMSRA) using the Liwen RF system was evaluated on Occurrence of major adverse events (MAE) within 30 days. Transthoracic echocardiography-guided percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation using the Liwen RF system was safe and effective in patients with drug-resistant hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, achieving an 88.2% procedural success rate and significant reductions in left ventricular outflow tract gradients.
