This article explores the impact of vaccines in mitigating infectious diseases, emphasizing the contributions of virologist Maurice Hilleman and the importance of vaccines developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hilleman, responsible for more than 40 vaccines, played a crucial role in eradicating or reducing diseases such as measles, mumps, and hepatitis B, preventing millions of deaths. In addition, the revolution in messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, developed over decades, opens new therapeutic possibilities for diseases such as cancer and HIV. However, misinformation about these immunizers, such as false claims of DNA modification, needs to be combated on a solid scientific basis. The article also highlights the importance of education in tackling scientific denialism and restoring confidence in vaccines. To encourage this discussion, a didactic activity is proposed, integrating Hilleman’s trajectory and contemporary vaccine innovations to educate and raise awareness about the value of science.
